Decontracting massage for tight neck and shoulders: a complete guide

Neck tension is one of the most common reasons people come to our centre in Palma. Office workers, drivers, hairdressers, people who spend hours looking at their phone. The neck is one of the areas that suffers most from modern lifestyles.

A decontracting massage is designed specifically to work on areas where tension has become chronic: the neck, trapezius and upper back. It is different from a relaxing massage. The pressure is deeper and more focused.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I NEED A DECONTRACTING MASSAGE? If your neck hurts when you turn your head, if you feel a knot in your upper back that will not go away, if you have had headaches that start at the back of your head and spread forward, you probably have a neck contracture that needs specific work.

DOES IT HURT? You might feel some discomfort when we work directly on the contracture point, but it should never be unbearable. The pressure is adjusted to your threshold and needs. Most people feel relief immediately after the first session.

HOW MANY SESSIONS DO I NEED? For a recent contracture, one or two sessions are usually enough. If the tension has built up over months or years, we recommend three to five sessions with weekly follow-ups. After that, a monthly maintenance session helps prevent it from coming back.

CAN I COMBINE IT WITH OTHER TREATMENTS? Yes. We often combine deep tissue work with gentle techniques at the end of the session so the muscle does not stay tight. We also recommend stretching exercises you can do at home.

If your neck is asking for a break, come by our centre in Sant Agustí. The first consultation is free: we assess your case, explain what is going on with your body and recommend the best treatment plan.
